Jet noise sources for chevron nozzles in under-expanded condition

نویسندگان

چکیده

Imperfectly expanded jet flows are known to have additional noise sources as Screech and broadband shock-associated noise. They generated by the interaction between instability waves that propagate from lip of nozzle shock cell structures. In this study, thorough experimental investigations were carried out on chevron nozzles assess importance parameters such count penetration angle pressure field emitted jet. Data acquired in state-of-the-art aeroacoustic facility at University Bristol. Acoustic measurements spectra, directivity overall sound levels along with near-field for Mach numbers ranging M = 1.1–1.4. Fourier-based Wavelet-based analyses used highlight different features various tested nozzles. Wavelet decomposition results presence chevrons reduce acoustic especially a higher axial distance increased reduction achieved deep angle.

Capillary nozzles for liquid-jet laser-plasma x-ray sources

We describe a method to fabricate tapered glass nozzles suitable for liquid-jet-target generation in laser-plasma soft x-ray and extreme ultraviolet sources. In the method, a tapered nozzle is formed as an integral part of a flexible capillary glass tubing. The method makes use of inert materials, extending the possible choice of target liquids compared to current nozzles. It also provides flex...

Aeroacoustic Improvements to Fluidic Chevron Nozzles

Fluidic chevrons use injected air near the trailing edge of a nozzle to emulate mixing and jet noise reduction characteristics of mechanical chevrons. While previous investigations of “first generation” fluidic chevron nozzles showed only marginal improvements in effective perceived noise levels when compared to nozzles without injection, significant improvements in noise reduction characterist...

Noise generated by multiple-jet nozzles with conical profiles 287.

Conical multiple-jet nozzles, which reduce the risk of nozzle openings being blocked, are tested for their effectiveness in noise reduction. Nozzles with different exit spacings are tested. It is found that the multiple-jet design significantly decreases noise levels in the audible range by shifting emitted sound power to higher and ultrasonic frequencies. No significant difference in noise cha...

Numerical Investigation of Ion Transport in Under-expanded Jet Flows

The transport of free ions through highly under-expanded jet flows of neutral gases and in the presence of applied electric fields is investigated by continuum-based numerical simulations. A five-moment mathematical model and parallel multi-block numerical solution procedure is developed for predicting the ion transport. The model incorporates the effects of ion-neutral collision processes and ...

Linear Stability Analysis of Chevron Jet Profiles

We investigate the linear stability characteristics of the mean velocity profiles produced by chevron nozzles. We show that chevron instability waves can be decomposed into azimuthal modes analogously to those of round jets. This facilitates a direct comparison of growth rates and mode structure between different nozzles. We find that the three nozzles used in this study share a set of modes, r...
